Reverend Dallas M. Jewell, age 82, of Pulaski, went to sleep Thursday, February 27, 2014 to wake up in glory. He was born July 16, 1932 in Greenbrier County, W.Va. to the Reverend James M. Jewell and Edythe Alexander Jewell. He was born again July 2, 1948. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Jewell.

Rev. Jewell was called into the ministry and entered Holmes Bible College in Greenville, S.C. then transferred to Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. He attended Florida State University, Concord Teachers College and Radford University and received a Master’s Degree in education from Virginia Tech and worked on a PhD in education from the University of Virginia. He taught school at Central in Pulaski County and was Principal at Hiwassee Elementary, the first school in Pulaski County to racially integrate.

As an evangelist, he traveled to West Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and a short term in Cuba. He pastored in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shady Springs, WV, French’s Chapel, Draper Valley, Staunton, Fries, Sunnyside, Max Meadows and Crandon. Dallas served on Youth and Sunday School boards and 16 years on the Virginia Appalachian Conference Board of the IPHC. He served eight years as World Missions Director/Evangelism Director for the Virginia/Appalachian Conference of the IPHC.

During his ministry, he helped young pastors trying to start their ministry. His heart desired to help people find the Lord and he loved to do the work of a good Shepherd.

He was married to his one and only wife, Juanita Boggs July 9, 1957. They were blessed with four sons, Reverend Terry Jewell and wife Suzanne Jewell, Jerry M. Jewell and Patti Jewell, Tim Jewell and Dianne Jewell and Reverend Jeffrey Scott Jewell and Rebecca Jewell. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, James Jewell, Angela Jewell Clebak, Corey Jewell, Sarah Jewell Marion, Justin Jewell, Christina Jewell, Courtney Jewell and Ethan Jewell; sister, Rhea Christenson of Leesburg, Va.; and brother, William Jewell of Wilmington, Del.

The family would like to thank the staff of Carilion Hospice for the care Rev. Jewell received during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Mike Ingo, Bishop Preston Mathena and Reverend Edward Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Appalachian Conference of the IPHC Cemetery, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church.
