Jennelle, John Harley
John Harley Jennelle, 76, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Richfield Retirement Center. He was born in Montgomery Co., Va. on January 14, 1931 to the late Roy Joseph and Iowa Mabry Jennelle.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Louise Jennelle and Margaret Elizabeth Jennelle, and seven brothers, Moiry William Jennelle, Allen Evans Jennelle, Harry Lynwood Jennelle, Roy Insley Jennelle, Norman Leon Jennelle, Donald Dean Jennelle, Cullen Eugene Jennelle.
John graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1951 where he was a Football star. He was member of the Old Timers Hunting and fishing Club at Mt. Lake and on New River. John served in the U.S. Army from 1954 thru 1956. He was stationed in Bamberg, Germany in the First Infantry Division (The Big Red One), 26th Regiment (Blue Spaders), Heavy Motor Company. His rank was sergeant. Prior to his army service he was in the Virginia State Guard 1 year and the National Guard for 6 years with the rank of Master Sergeant. He also spent 1 year in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Sharon J. and Dr. Craig Snyder, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Rita Jennelle, of Christiansburg; brother, Leonard Jennelle, of Blacksburg; three grandchildren, Zachary Snyder, Natalie Snyder, and Tavish Jennelle; two sister-in-laws, Anne Jennelle, of Roanoke, and Marie Jennelle, of Cassatt, S.C.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Jennelle Family Cemetery, Blacksburg. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Monday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
The Jennelle Family invites friends to gather with them at Custom Catering, 902 Patrick Henry Dr., Blacksburg, Va. immediately following service for lunch, and a celebration of John’s memory. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg High School Athletic Boosters, P.O. Box 707, Blacksburg, Va., 24063.
