jarels_george_robertPastor George Robert Jarels, 81, of Blacksburg, Va., went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital. He was born in Montgomery County, Va., on December 25, 1929, to the late Henry Lee and Clydia Thompson Jarels. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Herman, and Eugene Jarels. He retired from Virginia Tech after over 40 years of dedicated service. George was a Pastor for 35 years at Tom’s Creek Holiness Church and later at Reesedale Holiness Church. As a Pastor, George shared the word of the Lord to the residents of nursing homes in the New River Valley. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vivian T. Jarels; a daughter and sonin-law, Judy and Marvin “Chip” Groseclose, of Pilot; three sons and daughter-inlaw, George Richard “Rick” Jarels, of Blacksburg, Robert Wayne “Bobby” and Peggy Jarels, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Kenneth Lee “Kenny” Jarels, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kevin, Byron, Andy, Tammy, Shannon, Chris, and Robbie; seven greatgrandchildren; a sister, Lucille Vaught, of McCoy; brothers, Leslie Jarels, of Christiansburg, Marshall Jarels, of Baltimore, Md., and Walter Jarels, of Blacksburg; and a faithful furry companion, “Chelsea.” Funeral Services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wallace Yopp, Kenny Jarels and Byron Albert officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call anytime after noon on Friday, January 28, 2011, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg, Va., 540-552-3211.
