jarels_marvin_edwardMarvin Edward Marvin Edward Jarels, 59, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Born on December 14, 1950, he was the son of Walter Jarels and Frances Smith Jarels, of Blacksburg, Va. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nadean Duncan Jarels; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Darren Werner; grandsons, William and Samuel Werner; daughter, Kayla Jarels; son, Jameson Jarels; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Jim Mattox; sister and brother-in­law, Joyce and Mike Randall; and sister and brother-in-law, Enola Gay and Donald Hixon; and several beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam and received a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Civil Action Honor Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his service. He worked for the postal service for nearly 30 years and was the face of the downtown Christiansburg Post Office. He enjoyed doing yard work, caring for his vehicles and riding his Harley Davidson. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan and an avid supporter of the Va Tech Hokies. Marvin, who always had a smile and a helping hand, was a staple in the community and was loved by many.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Neal Turner and Rev. Lane Board officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the Marvin Jarels Scholarship fund, c/o Leane Charett, 304 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
