Jamison, Harmon William

Harmon William Jamison, aged 80, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018, at his home in Barren Springs, Virginia, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born to the late William Harry Jamison and Valeta Dexter Jamison in Pulaski, Virginia, on March 20, 1937.

Harmon was raised on a farm in Snowville, Virginia. After leaving school, he became a truck driver and worked for most of his life in transportation. Harmon married Evelyn Dooley in 1974 and welcomed a daughter, Grace, in 1976, followed by a son, Wes, in 1978. He owned his own trucking company and worked with many drivers over the years before retiring in 2004. Harmon deeply loved the Appalachian Mountains, the New River, and Claytor Lake. He enjoyed fishing, caring for animals, and NASCAR. Harmon was proceeded in death by his parents, one brother, his beloved wife, Evelyn, and a sister.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-love, Grace Jamison and Brad Coleman of Barren Springs and his son, the Rev. Wes Jamison, of Silver Spring, Maryland. His sister and brother-in-law, Snowdeer and Jay Peake and sister and brother-in-law Arleta and Doug Brown, both of Pulaski, also survive. Three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive as well. He was deeply loved and respected by family, friends, and neighbors and will be sorely missed.

The family will receive visitors at Berea Christian Church at 996 Berea Road in Wytheville, Virginia, on Saturday, February 24, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The memorial service will follow at the church at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Amanda Hatfield Moore, pastor of Hillsville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Hillsville, Virginia, officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in a private family service at the Berea Christian Church cemetery.
