Ingram, Mildred Marie Pritchard (Dickie)
Mildred Marie Pritchard (Dickie) Ingram, 88, of Narrows departed this life on Tuesday, September 18th, 2012 at her home. She was born in Princeton, West Virginia on February 17, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Arthur Mason and Mona Martin Pritchard Perdue. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Ray Eugene Ingram. Dickie was a retired employee of Narrows Flower and Gift Shop where she worked as a florist for over 30 years. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows where she served as a Deaconess Emeritus, a longtime leader of Christian Women’s Fellowship, Reading Chairperson, Assistant Group Leader, and developed several fellowship programs. An avid gardener and member of the Dirt Daubers Garden Club, Dickie was a huge Virginia Tech Hokie football fan (having attended home games the last five years), a past volunteer with the Giles County Chamber of Commerce, the New River Community Action Board of Directors, and the Narrows Junior Woman’s Club. In earlier years, she also served as a Girl Scout troop leader and den leader for the Cub Scouts. As one who enjoyed travel during her retirement years, she took a particularly special trip to Normandy, France on the 50th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion. Her husband, Eugene, fought in that battle. Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Judy Ingram Thompson and husband Peter of Middletown, Maryland; Dr. Richard Eugene Ingram and wife Susan of Harrisonburg; four grandchildren, Joseph E. Thompson of Charlottesville, Nathaniel M. Thompson of Fort Collins, Colorado, Brian P. Ingram of Charlottesville, Emily R. Harper of Harrisonburg; and many special friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 23rd, 2012 at 2 PM at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Narrows. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, where she will join her husband Eugene. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Saturday from 7 to 9 PM.
