Hypes, Henry Alvin

Henry Alvin Hypes, age 89, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at the Haven Assisted Living in Mechanicsville, VA. Born January 4, 1934, in Bluewell, WV, he was the son of the late Robert Trent and Annie Cordelia Townley Hypes.

Henry was an active member of the Seneca Trail Church of Christ in Lindside, WV. He was U.S. Army Veteran who served right after the Korean Conflict had ended. He worked as a traffic and safety engineer for the Virginia Department of Highways and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Nadean Thompson Hypes; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Hypes and Sandra Jane Hypes Harmon; two half-brothers, Warren Hypes and James Robert Hypes; and two half-sisters, Lucille Hypes Howell and Marshall Hypes Belcher.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Darlene Hypes of Henrico, VA; two sisters, Billie Juanita Hypes Hylton and husband Kenneth of Princeton, WV, and Brenda Hypes Myers of OR; special friends, Jimmy and Patty Meadows; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with military rites will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Henry’s nephew, Kenneth Hylton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the New Zion Cemetery in Princeton, WV.

Visitation will be from 12:00PM until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
