Unice C. Hylton, 98, of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2006.

He was an employee with the Virginia Department of Highways for 30+ years. He was a member of Falling Branch United Methodist Church where he had many loyal friends. He was a good husband and a loving and wonderful father. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people smile. After retirement he spent many enjoyable hours on his front porch.

Special thanks to the staff at Skyline Manor for all the love and care that was shown to him. He was treated very special by all involved during his stay at Skyline. We also appreciate and thank Hospice Care for all their support.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Hazel Blackwell. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Vada Vaughn Hylton; daughters and son-in-law, Louise and Curtis Nester, Donna and Jack Simmons, Kenneth Blackwell; grandchildren, Deborrah Scarbeck and husband Jim, Charles Blackwell and wife Janice, Matthew Blackwell and wife Kelly; greatgrandchildren, North Jackson and wife Mary, Dusten and C.J. Flinchum, Mackenzie Blackwell; great-greatgrandchildren, Anthony and Sarah Louise Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews, including a faithful nephew, Wayne Hylton.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Joshua Kilbourne, the Rev. Vinton Quesenberry and the Rev. Curtis Nester officiating. Music by Dana Howell and the Falling Branch Choir. Pallbearers will be Wayne Hylton, Jack Hylton, Glenn Spradlin, Charles Blackwell, Matthew Blackwell and Jim Scarbeck. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to his memory may be made to Falling Branch United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Hugh Nester, 109 Falling Branch Rd. NW, Floyd, Va. 24091.
