Willie Absher Hutton 81, of New Castle was the 8th of 11 children born to William Absher and Dallas Cook Absher.

She was born in Buchanan County, Va., on September 21, 1916 and died June 23, 2006 in Craig County, Va. She lived in the Looney Community, Craig County since 1958. She spent most of her childhood in the McDonald’s Mill area of Montgomery County, Va., and graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1934.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Andrew Hutton, who died June 16, 1991. Survivors include her four sons, Charles Andrew Hutton, Joseph Lance Hutton, Rodney Lee Hutton, and Stephen John Hutton. She is also survived by one brother, William Absher and one sister, Fannie Absher Spence, both of Blacksburg. She had 10 grandchildren, one unborn grandchild, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was a voracious reader, having completely read the Holy Bible several times. A devout Christian, she loved gardening and the farm life. A prime example of her faith was exemplified by her singing “How Great Thou Art” while hand milking a cow in extreme cold weather.

She survived a ruptured appendix and recovered from a major stroke to make it for 89 years, 9 months and 2 days. Her attitude was great throughout all adversities that came with her long life. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Paitsel Funeral Home with the Reverend Emory Hoke officiating. Interment will follow at Huffman Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Paitsel Funeral Home.
