Elder Richard Leeroy Hurst, 72, of 5685 Tanglewood Drive, Dublin, Va., died on Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010, at Duke University Hospital. He was born on September 24, 1937, in Baltimore, Md., and was the son of the late Harless J. Hurst Sr. and Cora Lee Hurst. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was retired after 28 years of service to the U.S. Post Office. He was pastor to New River Primitive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace B. Hurst. Surviving are sons and daughter-in-law, Troy W. and Cindy Hurst, of Dublin, Brian K. and Tracey Hurst, of Christiansburg, and Mark D. and special friend, Renee Stebar; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel R. and Pat Hurst; brother, Harless J. Hurst Jr.; sisters and brotherin-law, Mary Louise and Bill Hash, and Margret Jane and Curtis East; brother ,David I. Hurst; brother, Michael S. Hurst; brother-in-law, Clinton T. and Linda Brumback; grandchildren, Katherine E., Amber N., Benjamin D. Hurst, Brianna G., Logan M. Hurst, Ethan D., and Jackson R. Hurst; and one special child, Lindsey R. Lytton. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the New River Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Milton Gunter and Elder Dan Puckett officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memorial Gardens, Dublin. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va., 540-980-2600.
