Hurst, Gladys Craighead

Our beloved Mom went to be with Jesus on August 25, 2021. She will be greatly missed, but knowing she is in Heaven with her Savior, our Dad, her Dad and Mom, and siblings is of great comfort. She lived a long life raising three children and two grandchildren. Mom was a wonderful cook and was especially known for her fresh coconut cakes. She loved fishing with her sisters. She was also known for her beautiful quilts that she made for family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of over four decades, Nathan M. Hurst. She is also preceded in death by her father, Linden Craighead, and mother, Violet Craighead; brothers, Garland Craighead, Paul Craighead, and Curtis Craighead; and sisters, Helen Brown, Claudine Stump, Joan Austin and Janet Martin.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Smith of Delaware. She is also survived by her son, Michael Hurst; daughters, Betty Maxey and Sandra Sult; grandson Michael Wayne Hurst, Jr. and granddaughter, Georgia Ann Hurst, whom she raised as her children. She is also survived by grandchildren, Valerie Lumsden, Joey Sult, and Joy Beth Sult. She’s also survived by many nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 2:00pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00pm.
