Betty Harrell Hurst, 77, of Dublin, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at her home. Born in Pulaski on October 17, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Franklin and Mary Lettie Burke Harrell. Also preceding in death were her husband, James Robert Hurst; sisters, Peggy H. Johnson, L. Marie Harrell, and Thelma H. Hudson; brothers, T. Winfred Harrell, Robert A. Harrell, Sr., and Samuel F. Harrell, Jr.

Betty and her husband owned and operated the Pepper Grocery in Fairlawn for many years.

Surviving is her daughter, Tanya Leigh Hurst of Dublin; a special thank you to nieces, Brenda and Nick Jones of Dublin and Fran Cecil of King, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Dora P. Harrell of Dublin and Guida Q. Harrell of Pulaski; brothers-in-law, Richard and Betty Hurst of Christiansburg and Willis P. (Petey) Johnson, Jr. of Wytheville; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Linkous officiating. Burial of Mrs. Hurst’s cremains will follow in the Dublin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va. 24013.
