Hunter, Elizabeth Smith Nester

Elizabeth Juanita Smith Nester Hunter, age 88 of Pulaski passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 in the Lewis Gale –Pulaski Community Hospital. Born July 18, 1922 in Hiwassee, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Edwin Smith and Josie Mae Lawson Smith.

She was also preceded in death by the children’s father, Archie W. Nester and her second husband, Henry Kenneth Hunter; infant granddaughter, Sherri Sue Hutchison; one sister, Lavada Kathryn Quesenberry; two brothers, Princeton Kenneth Smith and David Edwin Smith.

She was retired from Pulaski Community Hospital with 18 years of service. She graduated from Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Practical Nursing.

Mrs. Hunter spent several years as a Civil Rights activist in the Martin Luther King era. She was a member of C.O.P.E.-the committee on political education and was an award winning poet.

Bonita Louise “Bonnie” Crisp and husband, Sam Crisp-Pulaski,
Kenneth Wyatt Nester and wife, Martha Nester-Pearisburg,
Teresa Leigh Nester Bouldin –Pulaski,
Lucinda Jane “Cindy” Dalton and husband, Rocky Dalton-Ivanhoe,
Linda Kay St.Clair and Husband, Michael St.Clair-Narrows.

Thirteen Grandchildren, Sixteen Great Grandchildren, & Two Great, Great Grandchildren.

Sisters-
Velma Louise McKinney-Richmond ,and Charlotte Rebecca Turman- Pulaski.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1:00 p.m. in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski with Bishop Rocky Dalton officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon Wednesday until service hour at 1:00 p.m. at Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski.
