Virginia Elizabeth “Liz” Hungate, 80, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

She was born in Giles Co., Va. on February 22, 1926 to the late James Harvey and Annie Sadler Martin, and was also preceded in death by her husband, David D. Hungate, two brothers, Daily Martin, Billy Martin, stepson Nelson Hungate, grandson Michael Whittaker, son-in-law Bobby Whittaker and stepson-in-law, Duane Elliott.

She was a member of Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and retired from Virginia Tech.

She is survived by her loving family of four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary A. Lucas, of Pearisburg, Patsy Martin and companion, Bud Stone of Christiansburg, Frankie Whittaker of McCoy, Sally and Jim Stafford of Blacksburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Gail Williams of McCoy, Donnie Williams and companion, Mike of Elliston; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Samuel E. (Pooch) and Betty Hungate of McCoy; stepdaughter, Phyllis Elliot of Blacksburg; sister, Dolly Gertrude Miller of Blacksburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Orin and Jane Martin of McCoy, Lewellyn Martin of Hoges Chapel; nineteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Rev. Gordon Lee and Rev. Holly Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery.

Friends may call anytime after 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, and family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Centennial Christian Church, Centennial Road, McCoy, VA. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
