Thomas L. Humphries, 69, of Riner, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, July 17, 2008, following a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen H. Spangler. Survivors include his sister and her husband, Linda and Danny Sweeney, of Christiansburg; his brother and his wife, Jack and Brenda Spangler, of Christiansburg; nephews and wives, Tony and Diane Fenton, of Christiansburg, Terry and Shawnee Fenton, of Floyd, and Charles Spangler and fiance, Allison, of Lynchburg; great-niece, Morgan Fenton; great-nephews, Jordan Fenton, Tyler Fenton and Kaleb Fenton; aunt, Sarah Doerr; and several cousins and many friends.

Tommy was an avid sports fan. He coached many sports before his retirement from the New River Valley Juvenile Detention Center. He was a member of Christiansburg Wesleyan Church where he served on the local board of administration and was a member of Wesleyan Men and Adult Sunday School class.

Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Christiansburg Wesleyan Church with the Dr. David Hurd officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humphries Memorial Children’s Fund, c/o Christiansburg Wesleyan Church, 525 Harkrader St., Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
