Betty L. Humphreys of Red Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, passed to her home in heaven on April 8, 2022, after several years of declining health. She was born on August 10, 1932, to the late O. E. “Doc” Long and Robbie Martin Long. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Early L. Humphreys, her sister and brother-in-law, Mildred L. Keatley and George W. Betty grew up on the family farm, “Valley View,” in Red Sulphur Springs where she honed her skills of milking cows by hand, pasteurizing the milk, churning butter to perfection and gardening. She learned to cook on a wood stove and will forever be remembered for her delicious custard at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

Shortly after graduating from Peterstown High School in 1951 as salutatorian of her class, Betty went to work at The First National Bank of Peterstown where she remained for over 60 years before retiring in 2019. She was a lifelong member of the Red Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church where she served in several capacities. She loved God, her family, church family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Lisa Boone and husband, Pat, of Red Sulphur Springs, and Keith Humphreys and wife, Mary, of Buchanan, Virginia. She was “MaMaw,” “Granny,” and “Gert,” to grandchildren Tyler Humphreys, Clair Humphreys, Kelly McGhee (Brandon), Mitchell Boone (Hannah), and Jarred Boone. She was “MaMaw Granny” to great-grandchildren, Mason McGhee and Eleanor Boone.
