Barbara Helen Rowell Hume 64, of Provo, Utah, formerly of Blacksburg, Va., died of cancer surrounded by her family on March 21, 2007.

Barbara graduated from Blacksburg High School, Radford College, and earned her masters from Virginia Tech and doctorate in English Literature from Brigham Young University. She was a teacher, writer, editor, and business owner. Her family and her church were a very big part of her life, and she was a true humanitarian giving of her time and money to those in need. Her family and friends will miss her presence and the positive influences she had on them.

Barbara is survived by her mother, Helen Rowell Miller of Blacksburg, Va.; her two children, David (Joelle) Hume of Price, Utah, and Debbie Rowell of Provo, Utah; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Zoe) Rowell of Radford, Va., Larry (Olivia) Rowell of Montgomery, Ala.; and a sister, Janet (Mark) Driscoll of Montgomery, Ala. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. J.O. (Jack) Rowell, and a brother, Rob Rowell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Walker Family Mortuary of Provo, 85 East 300 South. Interment will follow at the Provo City Cemetery.
