Hughes, Clifford Sherwood

Clifford Sherwood Hughes, 80, of Christiansburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 29, 2011 at Lewis Gale Hospital, Montgomery. Clifford was a longtime member of Calvary United Methodist Church, a Veteran of the United States Navy, and had retired as a Construction Electrician. The son to the late Spencer Kelly and Virginia Massey Hughes he was also preceded in death by his infant son, and his brother, Densel Kelly Hughes. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lola Jean Hughes; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Wayne Haley; son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Mary Hughes all of Christiansburg. Also surviving are his granddaughters and their husbands, Mary Ashley and Steve Strand of Lawrence, Kan., and Liann and Jimmy Fuller of Radford. Mr. Hughes is also survived by one greatgranddaughter, Aubrie Haley Fuller; and one sister, Alice Lilly of Royal Palm Beach, Fla. A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 with Pastor Sebert Rorrer officiating.
