Carson Ellis Hughes, 78 of Narrows went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 23rd. 2006 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on June 20th, 1928 and was the son of the late James Frederick Hughes and Elizabeth Blankenship Hughes. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore Hughes, Clayburn Hughes, and Leo Hughes; and two sisters, Lula Hughes and Lyda Havens.

He was a retired employee of the AT&T plant in Fairlawn, and a member of Hales Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved his family, especially his devoted wife and grandchildren, and was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Phyllis Burton Hughes; two very special nieces, Becky Ferrell Green and husband Carl; Lisa Kast and husband Buddy, all of Narrows; two grandchildren, Madison and Christopher Green, both of Narrows; a brother, Estel Hughes of Salem; a sister, Nonie Conley of Narrows; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 27th, 2006 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Rev. J.D. Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferrell Cemetery in the Wolf Creek Community in Giles County.
