Hughes, Bernice Barker

Bernice Loree Barker Hughes, age 96, of Catawba, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, at her home. She was born in Montgomery County, VA on October 6, 1924 to the late Luther and Amanda Shepherd Barker.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Richard Hughes; brothers, Haven Barker, Donald Barker, Cecil Barker, Owen Barker, Theo Barker; sister, Leona Eakin. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Mike Mitchell, Cathy and Jimmy Hayslett; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sandra Hughes, Kevin and Debbie Hughes, Gary Hughes; grandson, Dustin Hughes; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Karen Kessinger.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Barbara Hunter, Katie Keffer, Debbie Caldwell, and Sylvia Sanders.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
