Huffman, Eula Hypes
Eula Hypes Huffman, 96, of Newport, Va., was born on September 4, 1913 in Craig County and passed away on January 22, 2010 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was the only child born to James Harvey Hypes and Hettie Caldwell Hypes. Eula was married to James L. Huffman on January 28, 1964 and they lived on the family farm in the Sinking Creek section of the county for most of their married life. Eula was a homemaker who loved to sew and do needlework and was a life-long member of Level Green Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by a devoted sister-in-law, Ileta H. Huffman. They shared a suite at the “Oaks” of Richfield Retirement Community in Salem, for the past 4 1/2 years. She is also survived by a nephew, Clyde W. Huffman and wife, Nancy of Newport; niece, Sherry H. Pearson and husband, Ken of Vinton, nieces Gladys H. Roy and Mary H. Wooden of Jacksonville, Fla.; three great-nephews, Greg S. Huffman and wife Elizabeth, Tim L. Huffman and wife Angie of Newport, Eric B. Pearson of Vinton; great-great-nieces, Kristen Duncan, Heather Huffman, and Maggie Huffman and a great-great-nephew, Mason Huffman of Newport; numerous other nieces; and nephews; and a “special granddaughter”, Sue S. Bostic of New Castle. The family would like to thank the staff of the “Oaks” for the great care given to her these past few years. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at Level Green Christian Church with Pastor Mike Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow with Eula being laid to rest beside her husband, Jim in the Ross Cemetery in Craig County, Va.
