Huddleston, Sarah Elizabeth Carter
Sarah Elizabeth Carter Huddleston, age 98 of Dublin passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Lewis Gale Medical Center, Salem.
She was born February 24, 1910 in Bedford, Virginia, the first daughter of eight children born to the late Mortimor Alexander Carter and Ella Burnett Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kenneth Huddleston; two brothers, Boyce Carter and Lloyd Carter and one sister, Eva Pierce.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Bedford High School and National Business College. She retired from the office of Hoover Color Corporation and Hercules having worked first at the Dublin Bagging Plant during World War II, then the Hiwassee plant and later Pulaski. She was a past Worthy Matron of the former Dublin OES, Newbern Homemakers, and Dublin Garden Clubs. She was a member of the Dublin Baptist Church.
Her joys in life were her family, church, writing poetry and short stories, traveling, gardening, flowers, the love of all animals and playing piano.
Survivors are a Daughter and Son-in-law- Betty Anne and Dallas Cox-Dublin,
She was known as “Shotsie” to her two Granddaughters- Lisa Cox -Dublin, Renee Jucker and husband, Markus -Renton, Washington,
Two Great Grandchildren- Joseph Jucker and Katherine Jucker- Renton WA,
Brother- Jackson Carter and wife, Lillie Carter-Bedford, Sisters- Doris Reynolds-Bedford, Nora Blackstone- El Sobrante ,CA, Bernice Adams-Fairfax,
Brothers-in-law- Allen Huddleston and Sherman Pierce- both of Bedford, Many nieces and nephews,
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 11:00 A.M. at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with Rev. Dennis Jones officiating .Following the service, family and friends will meet at the Fellowship Hall of the Dublin Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski or at the home of Dallas and Betty Cox, 217 Giles Avenue, Dublin.
