Huber, Georgene Lukes
Georgene Josephine Lukes Huber, 91, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, September 15, 2022. She was born in Flushing, NY, on February 20, 1931 to the late Josef and Zdenka Prockar Lukes.
Georgene was the first child of her family born in the US after her parents and two sisters Rose Marie and Sylvia emigrated from Czechoslovakia to the United States. Raised in Flushing, NY, her family was active in the vibrant Czech-American community in New York. Georgene met her future husband while a student at Queens College and working at her parents’ ice cream parlour that bore her name.
Georgene and Bill were married for 71 years. After working at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC, Georgene and Bill raised their two children, Jeanne and Bill, in Westbury, NY, later moving to Westport, CT, and eventually Blacksburg to be closer to her grandchildren.
Georgene loved to travel (especially to Czechoslovakia), dance and entertain, and is well remembered for her generous servings on short notice. She especially loved her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and their spouses.
Georgene is survived by her husband, Bill Huber, her daughter Jeanne Huber-Happy and son Bill Huber and daughter-in-law Lynn Huber, by her grandchildren Kelsey Pasquarell, Clare Humphrys, Julian Happy, and Ben Huber, their spouses Micah Pasquarell, Adam Humphrys, Katherine Happy, and Elysia Huber.
