hubbard_violet_mcpeakViolet McPeak “Granny” Hubbard, 96, of Floyd, departed this life for her heavenly home on Saturday, September 17, 2016. She was born August 13, 1920, to the late Benjamin “Bennie” Harrison McPeak and Effie Boyd McPeak.

She is survived by her son, Jackie Wayne Hubbard; stepson, Charles McCoy Hubbard; and six daughters, India Mae Berkley, Mabel Delores Agee, Alreda and husband David Harvey, Geneva Huff, Sylvia and husband Frank Radozycki, and Frances Hollandsworth. A dedicated, caring, and loving mother, and grandmother, she leaves behind her grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are three brothers, Palmer, Ross, and Clifton McPeak.

She was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Lillian Mae “Katie” McPeak; three brothers, Wiley, Wesley and Marvin McPeak; and an infant great-grandson, Joseph Harvey. Four hours after Granny’s passing, she lost a grandson, Jerry Branscome.

She was a long-time member of Skyline Pentecostal Holiness Church just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan.She was owner and manager of Tex’s Drive-In Restaurant in Floyd, for many years. The young people knew and respected her as “Granny”. She had a kind heart and was always willing to listen and many times giving them good sound advice.

Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 19, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.
