Howery, Alfred Preston

Alfred Preston Howery, age 76, of Blacksburg, Virginia died May 21, 2021 at his home. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, pitching horseshoes and playing softball.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dee and Gladys Howery and his brother, Winston Howery. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Johnston Howery. He is survived by his wife, Viola Howery, his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Cindy Dowdy, his grandchildren, MaKayla and Bryce Dowdy, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Eddie Broyles, Madeline and Jake Frazier, Patsy Duncan and Janet Dowdy. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 11:00AM at McCoy Funeral Home chapel with Mr. Jerry Dowdy and Mr. Gary McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Virginia. Visitation will be from 10-11:00AM prior to the service. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Intrepid USA Hospice for their care over the last few months.
