William Lawrence Howell, 77, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009. He was the founder and owner of Howell’s Auto Sales for over 50 years where he repaired and sold countless vehicles for numerous people. He was always willing to help anyone at anytime or just sit and enjoy a lengthy conversation. Not much could rival his passion for his antique cars and trucks and his love of visiting car shows and cruise-ins.

He was a veteran, who served during the Korean Conflict, and was wounded during combat. He was also a racing fan and competitor in his early years. He shared his knowledge and supported his sons, “Bo” and Tony, in their racing achievements.

He enjoyed going to the Floyd Country Store every Friday night where he would listen and flatfoot to the music. He was very well known and respected by everyone in the community. He will forever be missed, especially by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Jackson Howell; mother, Rhetta Aquilla Akers Howell; sister, Iva Carroll; daughter-in-law, Linda G.
