Harry Thomas Howard, 89, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, at his home in Radford. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired after 32 years from the police force at RAAP.

He was also a coal miner in Kentucky for 14 years. He was born on June 22, 1918, in Kentucky, a son of the late McCoy and Lillie B. Howard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Morine Bentley Howard.

Survivors include six daughters and sons-in-law, Jewel and Jim Whited, Lynn and Jim Seltz, Barbara Mathes, Rebecca and Chuck May, all of Radford, Belinda and W.C. Helton, of Calhoun, Ky., and Madonna and Jim Warmack, of Largo, Fla.; a son, Harry M. Howard, of Radford; a brother, Dan Howard, of Whitesburg, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Radford with Pastor O.D. Morgan and Pastor Brian Cochram officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Dublin.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Radford Fire and Rescue or the Carilion Hospice, 700 Randolph St., Radford, Va. 24141.
