Howard, Charlie Preston

Charlie Preston Howard, 70, of Riner, Va. went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 2, 2010, at his home. He was born on May 11, 1939, in Montgomery County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Nellie Howard; brother, Earlie Ray Howard; and sisters, Maxine Miller, Shirley Reed and Sandra Gibson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Joyce; daughters and sons-inlaw, Mary Jane and Roland Wright, Betty Jean and Eric Frazier, Lora Ann Howard, Linda Sue Howard; sons and daughters-in-law, Jr. Lee and Martha Howard, Charlie Ray Howard, Tony Lee and Sandy Howard, Lee Curry Howard, Charlie Wayne (C.W.) Howard; 17 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; sisters, Melba Kozar and friend, William Lucado, Stella Kozar, Lucy and George Hale, Annie and Richard Caldwell; Charlie’s special children, Ryleigh and Tyler; very special friends and family, Addie and Charlotte Martin, Crystal Keith, Gary Long, Larry Martin and Reliable Sales, of Radford.

Mr. Howard served in the United States Air Force. He was a truck driver and owned his own business until becoming disabled. He never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday April 6, 2010, at Harbor of Hope Church with Pastor Richard Kingrea, Pastor Joe Cox and Pastor Roy Turpin. Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #7854 and American Legion Post #127. Interment will follow in the Howard Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at Maberry Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his wife, Joyce, for expenses.
