amem_gardening.jpgGeraldine Buckland Houchins, 81, of Pearisburg, Va., passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg.

Jerry went home to the Lord’s House to join her husband, Granville Houchins; her parents, Darrell and Edith Johnson Buckland; her sisters, Flora McKlarney, Sylvia Munsey and Betty Lou Poff; her brother, Darrell Hampton Buckland Jr.; and a nephew, Arvel Hampton Thompson.

Jerry was born on May 14, 1926, in Giles County, Va. She was the third child out of eight, one boy and seven girls. She was a member of the Ingram Village United Methodist Church and was a retiree of the Celanese Plant in Narrows, Va.

She is survived by three sisters, Lois Thompson, of Kelleysville, W.Va., Luella Lafon, of Salem, Va., and Clara Ruth Miller, of Peterstown, W.Va.; a special cousin who was like a sister, Charlotte Faulkner, of Peterstown; two brothersin-law, Lawrence Poff, of Roanoke, and Roscoe Houchins, of Pearisburg; and two sistersin-law, Gladys Lucas and Pauline Riddle, of Pearisburg. She is greatly loved and will be forever in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the home of Jerry Houchins and at Givens Funeral Home Saturday evening, March 29, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the care providers, the Staff at Giles Memorial Hospital and Dr. Walker for their love, time and effort. The family would also like to thank New River Valley Hospice for their love, compassion and prayers.
