Elder James T. Horton “J.T.” age 72 gained his wings November 13, 2021 at Lewis Gale Hospital in Pulaski, Va. He was born on August 5, 1949 to the late James and Mary Horton of Gary, WV where he graduated from Gary High School and McDowell County Vocational School with a certificate in Industrial Maintenance (welding).

Elder Horton was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Wilcoe, WV where he served as superintendent of the Sunday School and was ordained as a deacon. During this time, he became a licensed minister and attended Flat Top Seminary Extension School of Ministry in Hill Top, WV. He is a past member of Euclid Lodge #18 F & AM Masonic Lodge of Gary, WV.

Elder Horton pastored at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, Coalwood, WV: Beulah Baptist Church, Big Sandy, WV: First Baptist Church Magazine Street of Pulaski, VA: St. Paul United Holiness Church, Woodlawn, VA: Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church, Dublin, VA.
Elder Horton was very well known throughout the hills of West Virginia and Virginia for saving souls, fishing for catfish and raising beagle dogs; especially his award winning champion-Queenie.

Elder Horton was preceded in death by his parents James & Mary Horton, his sister Dorothy Mae Horton and his daughter Krystal Michella Horton.

He is survived by his wife Rita L. Horton of the home, son Jay T. Horton, and daughter Misty L. Horton both of Dublin, Va. His grandsons Rashawn Finley (friend Tasha) of Pulaski VA; RaQuan Horton, James Horton-Gramby and Khalib Horton all of Dublin VA. Brother Johnnie (Patricia) Horton of Auburn Hill, MI; Aunt Virginia Finch; Uncle Willie (Gloria) Horton all of Detroit, MI and a host of nieces, nephews and family members.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, 2PM at Jubilee Christian Center, Fairlawn, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Sunrise Burial Park.
