hopkins_jesse_evans_srJesse Evans Hopkins, Sr., 84, of Pulaski, Va., died Saturday evening December 11, 2010 in Lewis Gale Hospital, Pulaski. He was born January 14, 1926 in Max Meadows, Va., and was the son of the late Charles V. Hopkins Sr. and Emma Collins Hopkins. Jesse Hopkins enjoyed hunting, traveling, farming, and developing real estate. He enjoyed most of all his family and good friends. He was a retired employee of Jefferson Mills with 58 years of service. He was a long time member of Pulaski First Church of The Brethren and was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Navy in the Pacific. He was preceded in death by sisters, Zeola Harrel, Ruth St. John, and Leona McDavid. Also preceded in death were brothers, Walter Hopkins, Bill Hopkins, Bascom Hopkins, Elmer Hopkins, Charles Malcolm Hopkins, Ernest Hopkins, and Edward (Pete) Hopkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Arbutus H. Hopkins of Pulaski; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jesse E. Hopkins, Jr. and wife Alice Lee of Bridgewater, Va., Daniel L. Hopkins and wife Linda of Pulaski; grandsons and spouse, Bradley S. Hopkins and wife Sherry of Roanoke, and David Hopkins of Lynchburg; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Hopkins, of Draper, Thomas Clinton and Nancy Hopkins, of Chester, Va., Marion and Nora Hopkins, of Pulaski; also numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 2 p.m. from The Pulaski First Church of The Brethren, with the Rev. Ted Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends Monday night from Stevens Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers are appreciated but prefer in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Pulaski First Church of the Brethren.
