George Marshall Holmes, 83, of Blacksburg, Va., died on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was born in Washington, D.C. on April 11, 1924 to the late George and Ella Sue McCauley Holmes. George retired from the C & P Telephone Company with over 38 years of service. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by Mary and Margaret Evans and the Evans family and all his cousins. The family would like to thank all of George’s very dear friends and special friends, Teeter Robinson, Willis Henoger, Tom and Bonnie Site, Tindal Snider, Charlie Gray, William “Cheese” Wohlford, and all his other friends who helped George during his illness.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Lucian Robinson, Dr. Harry McCoy and their staffs for their help caring for George.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at noon in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. The procession will leave McCoy Funeral Home at 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 for all those wishing to attend the service.

Friends may call anytime at the Evans residence, 1715 North Main Street and the family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, October 9, 2007 at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
