Holdren, Kenneth Ray

Kenneth Ray Holdren, age 98 of Glen Lyn, died Friday June 5, 2009 at his home. Born July 26, 1910 in Mercer County, WV he was the son of the late Horace Greely and Parthelia Wiley Thompson Holdren.

Kenneth had made his home with his brother Rheudney and family. He was a construction worker with Boilermakers Local #45, Richmond, VA. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a German prisoner of war for 11 months. He was a member of VFW Post #6000, Narrows, VA. Kenneth was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Holdren Clemons, Leafy Holdren White, Jamie Thompson StClair, Laura Thompson Dent-Short, and Delphia Thompson Dent. Seven brothers; infants Samuel , and Harry “Tobe” Thompson, Walter, Rheudany, Donald, Clyde, and Paul “Pete” Holdren.

He is survived by nieces and nephews; Betsy Holdren with whom he made his home at Glen Lyn, VA., Bobby Clemons, Glen Lyn, VA., Dickie Clemons of Michigan, Frances White Varner and Jerry White Brown of Princeton, WV., Marion Gay White Dunbar of Rich Creek, VA., Paul G. St.Clair of Herndon, VA., Polly StClair Alvis of NC., Margaret Dent Williams of Pearisburg, VA., Joyce Dent Wolbert of Martinsburg, WV., Lucy Dent Atkins of Rock Camp, WV., June Holdren Oates and Mickey Holdren Swann both of Wheeling, WV., Evelyn Holdren Strader of FL., Walter Holdren, Jr. of Wheeling, WV., Jane Holdren Smith of Hoges Chapel, VA., Freddie Holdren of Roanoke, VA., and Bobby Holdren of Natural Bridge, VA., and all of their families. Also surviving; good neighbors of many years, Bernice Wimmer, Louise Jessee and her late husband Jack Jr., Red and Betty Coffman who were former neighbors. Good friends who visited and called about Kenneth; Mitch and Ellen Coburn of Mtn. Bluff Road, Princeton, WV., Ernest and Brenda Combs of Elgood, WV., and J.B. Buckland of Rich Creek, VA.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Tuesday June 9, 2009 at Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, VA., with Minister Jim Mullins officiating.
