Barbara Lynn Brown Hodges, 71, of Lindside, WV, went home to meet Jesus peacefully on Sunday night listening to her ‘Goin Home’ playlist and surrounded by family. Born in Princeton, WV, on October 10, 1953, to the late Clendal Roberts Brown and the late Anna Ruth Goodall Brown.
Barbara was a 1971 Peterstown High School graduate, a homemaker, and caretaker in her community. She was a member of Wikel Community Baptist Church where she served as piano player, Sunday school teacher, and VBS volunteer. Because she had a servants heart, she was actively involved in local missions for many years including volunteer Red Cross in Monroe County, Greenville Women’s Club, and election polling precinct worker in Greenville. In addition to local service, she was involved in Samaritan’s Purse and three trips to Guatemala. She was a talented seamstress and worked alongside a group of ladies at RBC who sewed women’s hygiene kits sent all around the world.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Anthony Roberts Brown, and Gary Wayne Brown; and her beloved grandmother, Lena Ann Lilly Goodall. Survivors include her husband Benny of 53 years; one daughter, Heather Mann and husband Rodney; and one son, Justin and wife Melissa. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren, Mikhail and Lena Mann, and Zoey and Brody Hodges.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Pastor Todd Carr officiating and speaker Paul Baker. Burial will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Bozoo, WV, with nephews serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy be sent out to Wikel Community Baptist Church building fund for kitchen completion.
