Richard Melvin Hodge, 61 of Pembroke, VA went to be with the Lord in the care of his wife on May 17, 2023. Born in Virginia on December 12, 1961, he was a son of Bonnie Robinson and the late Howard Robinson.

By trade, Richard was a stone mason with the Virginia Tech Rock Quarry. Richard was always a Green Wave at heart as he was a proud graduate of the Narrows High School class of 1981. If it was a Sunday, you could often find Richard glued to the TV as he would watch his “Men of Steel” (Pittsburgh Steelers) play football; or on a college gameday, he would sport the maroon and orange in support of his beloved Hokies. In addition to these sports, Richard enjoyed fishing. Richard would also be filled with joy and love while he would spend time with family and friends. However, his One of his most precious moments however, was when he was baptized this past Sunday.

He is preceded in death by his father, Howard Robinson.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Bonnie Robinson; wife, Malinda Hodge; sons, Richard Hodge of Kansas; Chris Hodge (Kayla) of Blacksburg; daughter, Tiffanie Handy (Kyle) of Newport News, VA; step-sons, Jerry Martin Jr. and Brian Sparks of Roanoke; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Willow, Amira, Freya, Juls, Jaxon, and Savannah; brothers, Steve Hodge (Rhonda) of Bland, VA, and Mike Hodge (Vickie) of Narrows; sisters, Sherry Merrix (Gene) of Narrows, VA, Ramona Morgan (Randy), and Secellia Carlton of North Carolina; special friends, Ted and Pam Newsome, and Mike and Connie Wells; and his three furbabies, Pickles, Moon Pie, and Macy.

There will be a funeral service conducted for Richard on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel with Tony Robinson and Tim Smith officiating. Services will conclude in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA. The family will receive friends on Monday May 22, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Kendall Funeral Home.
