Rachel N. Hixon, 75, a resident of our Lady of the Valley Assisted Living of Roanoke, Va. and formerly of Christiansburg, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Montgomery County, Va. on April 18, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Pearl Akers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. (Junior) Hixon; a son, Steven R. Hixon, and a sister, Claudine Bowles. She is survived by a son, Jerry Hixon; a daughter, Sherri H. Shell and husband, Michael; and two granddaughters, Christine and Amanda Shell, all of Roanoke, Va. The family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of the Valley for their special care and kindness. Also, thank you to the nurses, E.M.T.s, and doctors at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The family would also like to thank Jeane Ferron for all of her caring and thoughtfulness. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 14, 2010, from 11 a.m. until time of service. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 12 noon from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with the Rev. Louis W. Glockner officiating.
