Charles Luck Hixon Jr., of Tahoka, Texas, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 24, 2008, at the age of 75. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Luck Hixon Sr.; mother, Mary McGuire Burk; stepfather, Harry Burk; and son, Charles Luck Hixon III. Charlie always said he was “born in a holler” in Montgomery County, Va., on September 23, 1933. Charlie served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. It was while he was stationed at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, Calif., that he met the love of his life, Mary Lee Fisher. They married on May 24, 1953, and recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Charlie loved hunting, fishing, playing rummy, and was a very good softball pitcher. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Hixon, of Tahoka Texas; two sisters, Frances Farmer and Betty Jo Hixon, of Montgomery County, Va.; one son, James Hixon, of Galax, Va.; and five daughters, Charlotte and Jerry Cox, of Dublin, Va., Kareen and Barry Arnold, of Floyd, Va., Calli and Mark Phillips, of Christiansburg, Va., Trasa and Johnny Jones, of North Carolina, and Virginia and Frank Altmaier, of Illinois; 16 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. He will also be missed by special friends, and everyone in the town of Tahoka and in Virginia who knew him. A memorial service for friends and family will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at Cambria Baptist Church, Christiansburg, Va.
