Hines, Carolyn Yates

Carolyn Yates Hines, 63, of Radford, Va., passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 28, 2007.

She was born April 2, 1944 in Beckley, W.Va., the daughter of Robert J. and Myrtle Smith Yates of Newport News, Va. She was a graduate of Warwick High School in Newport News, Va. She started work at Radford University on January 16, 1979 where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree on May 2, 1992, Magna Cum Laude.

She went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration Degree on December 20, 1997. She was a member of Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi, she served as treasurer of the Higher Education Software Users Association for many years. She taught University 100, chaired various committees and served on many others including AACRAO, SACRAO and VACRAO.

She is survived by her husband, Donald G. Hines; sons, Charles E. Newman of Schenectady, N.Y., CPO Gerald S. Newman of the United States Navy, Norfolk, Va., Brad D. Hines of Riner, Va. and William G. Hines of Radford, Va.; a granddaughter, Rachel E. Newman of Schenectady, N.Y.; brothers, Robert J. Yates, Jr. of Newport News, Va. and Clarence E. Yates of Lakeland, Fla.

A scholarship fund is being established in Carolyn’s name through the Radford University Foundation, P.O. Box 6915, 801 East Main St., Radford, Va. 24141-9903.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Pastor Randy Morris with interment to follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
