hill_roxie_allenRoxie Anne Allen Hill, 70, of Christiansburg, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2011. Born on March 18, 1941, in Amherst County, she was a daughter of Eldridge B. Allen and Roxie Thompson Allen Brown. Roxie Anne was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmy B. Allen and Eldridge W. Allen; and infant son, William Tinsley Hill Jr. Roxie Anne began her 49 year career in retail starting at the age of 15 working at Leggett’s in Lynchburg after school and week-ends. After graduation from Amherst County High School, she continued working at Leggett’s as a buyer. She later worked for Miller and Rhodes and Thalhimers as a department manager. Later, she began working for T.J. Maxx and was store manager of the Charlottesville and Christiansburg stores before retiring. She trained many new managers, helped set up new stores, and received many awards from T.J. Maxx. Upon retirement, Roxie Anne enjoyed traveling especially to the western United States and St. Thomas. She also enjoyed crafts and volunteering. She was an active volunteer with Wheatland Hills Assisted Living and RSVP of Montgomery County, until her health began to fail. She enjoyed attending plays, concerts, and the Roanoke Symphony. Roxie Anne’s greatest pleasure and pride came from her loving daughter, Callie. She especially cherished her role as big sister to her siblings and always encouraged them. Survivors include her daughter, Callie Roxanne Hill, of Roanoke; a sister, Bettie Sue (Donny) Jennings, of Madison Heights; brothers, Dr. Ray (Ann) Allen, of Vinton, Robert (Betty) Allen, of Lynchburg, Ed (Becky) Allen, of Troutville, Kenneth (Diana) Allen, of Hood, Henry (Valeria) Allen, of Madison Heights, and Joe (Rachel) Allen, of Lynchburg; and sister-in-law, Yvonne Allen, of Spout Spring. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving her are many special friends, among them, Trish Simpkins. The family would like to thank caregivers, Charlie and Polly Whitaker and Diane Surber, for their devotion. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. A celebration of Roxie Anne’s life will follow at 7 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ray Allen officiating.
