Higgs, Erbie M.

Erbie M. Higgs, 83, of Floyd, passed away April 17, 2008 in a Roanoke Hospital. Erbie was a life long resident of Floyd County in Copper Valley section.

He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the Navy aboard the USS Biloxi. He was a retired employee of the Lynchburg Foundry. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dale Akers; grandson, Ryan Akers; sister, Lucille McDaniel; and a brother, Gentril Higgs.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Gail Altizer, of Floyd, and Vickie Akers, of Radford; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Troy Higgs, of Willis; sister, Margaret Lindsey, of Houston, Texas; and special friend, Glenn King, of Radford.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenny Wurzburger officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008, at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m.
