James Walton Hicks, Sr., 73, of Riner, VA departed this life Sunday morning, May 13, 2018 while on a vacation with his family in the Pigeon Forge area of the Smokies. Born in Princeton, WV on July 3, 1945, he was a son of the late Daniel Walton and Virginia Newkirk Hicks.

He was a welder by trade and a member of the Boilermakers Union. His parents and a brother, Kenneth Hicks preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Craig Smith of Riner; his sons and daughter-in-law James Walton Hicks, Jr. of Pembroke and Michael Robert and Candance of Peterstown, WV; his grandchildren Amanda, Alex, Andy, Brienna, Adrianna, Abigail, Cadence, Camdyn, Amber, Mya, and Brittany; his great-grandchildren Isabelle, Allison, Callie, Brayden, Evie, Jeremiah, and Camden.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday afternoon at four pm in the Three Strands Church in Blacksburg with Pastor Tony Johnson officiating. The family will greet their friends and share a meal with their friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
