Joseph Avery Hester, 95, of Dublin, Va., died early Monday morning, September 20, 2010, at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1914, in Spotsylvania County, and was the son of the late Mary Ellen Wheeler Hester and Robert Lawrence Hester. Mr. Hester was a retired supervisor for Klopman Mills in Dublin. He was an active member for many years at Dublin United Methodist Church where he proudly once served on the maintenance committee, was a former member of the Dublin Ruritan Club, and a member of the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge #280 A.F. & A.M. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Seaton Hester; six brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by a son, Joseph “Steve” Hester and his wife, Sarah, of Dublin; a sister, Nancy Walton, of Richmond; and two grandchildren, Joe Hester and his fiancĂ©e, Anna Walker, and Sam Hester. He is also survived by a special caregiver, Sadie Freeman, of Pulaski. Funeral Services will be held 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Dublin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Rowland officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, September 23, 2010, at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin where the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge will provide Masonic Graveside Rites.
