Virgil J. Hess, 74, of Christiansburg, Va., died on Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Born in Raven, Va. to the late Elbert and Margaret Newberry Hess.

Mr. Hess was preceded in death by a brother, Graham Hess, of Raven, Va.; and a sister, Altic. H. Compton, of Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Mendel L. Hess of Christiansburg, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Jerry McGlothlin of Richlands, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Missy Linkous of Christiansburg, Va.; granddaughter, Michaela D. Linkous of Christiansburg, Va.; grandson, MJ Linkous of Christiansburg, Va.; grandsons and their spouses, Timothy and Kim McGlothlin of Raven, Va.; Terry and Christy McGlothlin of Jewel Ridge, Va.; greatgrandchildren, Jacob and Whitney McGlothlin of Jewel Ridge, Va.; Anna and Emily McGlothlin of Jewel Ridge, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Garland and Marie Hess, of Newport News, Va.; Elsie H. Vance of Portsmouth, Va.; his dog, Bootie; brother-in-law, Tommy Hilton of Christiansburg, Va.; two special nephews, Jon and Joe Hilton of Christiansburg, Va.; friends, Rondall and Sue Newberry of Doran, Va.; Minnie and Leroy Early of Pulaski, Va.; Rev. Jerry and Freda Buckner of Christiansburg, Va.

The family will receive friends Friday, November 16, 2007 at Horne Funeral Service from 12 to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Buckner and the Rev. Jube Burk officiating. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, Va.
