Ethel King Heslep, 93, of Salem passed away Saturday, October 27, 2007. She was born July 30, 1914 in Montgomery County, Va., daughter of the late Joseph F. and Olivia Lane King.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Millard and Harry King and two sisters, Lydia Swain and Ruth Knowles. Mrs. Heslep retired from Richfield and was a member of First United Methodist Church. “If faith and believing in God gets you to Heaven, she is already there!”

She is survived by her son, Charles R. Heslep, Jr.; grandson, Charles R. Heslep, III; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Matthew Heslep; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Louise Hickson Dobyns (loving neighbor and caregiver for 59 years), Mossie Bateman (Side by Side), and Margie Odell.

Some of the many things that have made Mom’s life happy and fulfilled were from her many friends that called, sent a card, visited, and sent flowers. She also enjoyed a big slice of corn bread. What she enjoyed most were the people who cared enough to do things for her.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem with the Rev. Bobby Pickle officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Online condolences may be made at www.johnmoakey.com.
