Hattie Vernon Anderson Helton, 73, passed away Friday, December 15, 2006, at her home in Christiansburg.

She was a member of White Memorial United Methodist Church. She was born September 14, 1933, in Washington County, the daughter of the late Eugene and Lena Gregory Thomas. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert E. Anderson and her second husband, Kenneth Helton.

Survivors include a son, William Lee Anderson of Christiansburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue A. and Bull Teel of Christiansburg; a stepdaughter and her husband, Robin and Dan Carpenter of California; two grandchildren, Mellissa Sweeney and her husband Bear, and Andrew Anderson and his special friend Jessica Harrison; a great-granddaughter, Destiny Sweeney; stepgrandchildren, Danny, Clayton and Sabrina Carpenter; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Mary Frances Thomas of Florida and Byrd and Linda Thomas of Abingdon; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris Smith of Norfolk, Ann and Charlie Helton of Birmingham, Ala., Jo and Jerry Ryburn of Marion and Christine and Thurl Cannon of Glade Springs; a sister-in-law, Pat Bartlett and her husband Mike of Manassas; and two brothers-in-law, Roger and Don Helton; and several special nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Monday, December 18, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Mr. Larry Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Christiansburg or Riner Rescue Squad or the Riner Volunteer Fire Department.
