Samuel Ray Helms, 58, of Knoxville, Tenn., and of Blacksburg, Va., passed away May 25, 2009. He was a member of Merrimac Pentecostal Church and Co-owner of Cherokee Porcelain. He loved house boating on Norris Lake. Preceded in death by parents, Ervin Helms Sr. and Nora Price Helms; sister, Phyllis Helms Humphrey; brothers, Jimmy (James) Helms, Dick (Richard) Helms. Surviving are his wife, Vicki Corum Helms; brothers, Ervin Helms Jr., Rudy (Rudolph) Helms and wife, Hilda, Don (Donald) Helms and wife, Lelia; sisters, Dorothy Helms Fulks, Maxine Helms Wrenn and husband, Larry, Pam (Pamela) Helms Clay and husband, Bobby; father-in-law, Frank Corum; sister-in-law, Laura Morriss and husband, David, sister-in-law, Jennifer Corum, sister-in-law, Barbara Helms; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 29, 2009, at 8 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Sloss officiating. Private entombment will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
