Chrystiline Mathena Hedge, 77, of Radford, Va., passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. In Chris’ own words, she was “packed up, prayed up and ready to go.” She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother who loved and nurtured everyone. She was the world’s greatest biscuit maker and peace maker, and a beacon of light to those who knew her and met her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thurman Hedge; a daughter, Janie Hedge Brightwell; eight siblings; and a greatgrandson, Cooper Lee Shaw. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Larry Hollins, of Dublin, Ruby and Dewey Thompson, of Concord, N.C., Rebecca Elmore, of New Castle, and Karen Akers, of Radford; a son and daughterin-law, James Thurman and Catrina Hedge, of Newport; 15 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Laurie Lytton. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Dublin Church of God with the Rev. Michael Collins and the Rev. Lee Sarver officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
