Charles Roderick “Chuck” Haynes, 89, of Radford, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015. He was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church and was a retired owner and operator of a local grocery store.

He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran having served during WWII as a waist gunner on a B17 in the 560th Squad in Europe in the #388 Bomber Group. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #776 and the DAV in Christiansburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Walters Haynes, daughter, Charlene M. Haynes, parents, Alfred and Mary Haynes, and brothers, Earl, Roy and H. B. Haynes.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Rosemary Haynes of Radford; grandchildren and their spouses, Gina H. and Neil Brown and Jodi H. and Joe Strange, all of Wilson, N.C., and Justin Haynes of Radford; 4 great grandchildren, Morgan and Meredith Brown, and Kara and Kelsie Strange; brothers, Wayne and James Haynes, both of Radford; sister, Freda H. Mullins of Jenkins, Ky.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday April 13, 2015 at the Fairlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Strange officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin where members of VFW Post #776 will conduct military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4 pm until 6 pm at the church.
The Haynes family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
