Floyd Nelson Hawley, 80, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home and among family on February 25, 2023. He was born on September 23, 1942, in Radford, Virginia, to Ray and Ola Scott Hawley.

Nelson was the youngest of six siblings, preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Hawley, and sister, Ann Belle Hawley Rasnake. A lifelong resident of Christiansburg, Nelson was hardworking and retired from The Radford Foundry. He was a good provider and loved spending time with his family. Nelson had many other loves too. You could always see him mingling at local restaurants, talking to people over coffee. He got much joy from watching the History channel and often called his children and grandchildren to watch these shows alongside him.

He was a very giving and generous husband, father, and grandfather who worked hard every day. His dedication and loyalty to his work were exhibited daily as he would leave for work at least one hour early to ensure he was never late. It was a trait that his children did not like growing up but soon adapted into their lives as adults. He treasured spending time with his grandkids and watching them grow up through the years.

Nelson is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie Blankenship Hawley; two children, Harold Nelson Hawley (Kathy) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Regina (Missy) Hawley Milbeck (Chad) of Holly Springs, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Lauren and Alex Hawley and Ashley, Austin, and Aiden Milbeck; two brothers, Bill Hawley (Doris) of Lynchburg, Virginia and Buddy Hawley (Clarice) of Fairlawn, Virginia and a sister, Pauline Hawley of Midlothian, Virginia; and many other nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Christiansburg, Virginia, on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 4:pm. A private family service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, Virginia.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the kind and loving care shown to Nelson by the Carillion Clinic Hospice staff.
