Hawkins, Jack Emmett

Jack Emmett Hawkins, 93, of Blacksburg, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2015. He was born September 17, 1921 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Eugene and Vivian McLellan Hawkins.

He served four years in the Navy during WWII, during which he was the self-taught Spanish interpreter of his ship, and a year during the Korean Conflict, then attended Tulane University in New Orleans.

Jack was retired from Amoco Oil Co. and also from a 25 year career in real estate in New Orleans.

He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, Virginia.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of almost 68 years; daughters Ellen (Terry) Schenck, Marilyn (Jon) Eisenback, Jean (Jim) Ebel, Jan (Chuck)) Boyd; grandchildren, Brian (Ashley), Justin, Jordan (Katherine), Rachel (Shawn), Ruth, Andrew, and Abigail; and 2½ precious great granddaughters, Madeline and Sloan.

Friends may call at McCoy Funeral Home (Blacksburg) from 1 pm until service time on Wednesday, May 20, and Pastor Shahn Wilburn will officiate the funeral service at 2 pm. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery (Blacksburg).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Gideons International or to Good Samaritan Hospice, whose loving care of Jack was much appreciated by the family.
